The Dubuque Airport has a restaurant on the field. Despite that, I suggest taking advantage of the Jet Center crew car and driving into town. Get directions to Main Street. As with many Midwestern towns, the downtown area has a number of empty storefronts, but a few good restaurants still exist in the picturesque city.
If you have some time after your meal, visit the Fourth Street Elevator (512 Fenelon Place). This type of steep trolley is still used in some cities around the world, but it is rarely found in the United States.
Dubuque is also the closest airport to the resort town of Galena, IL. Galena is about a half hour drive from the airport. You can rent a car from the Jet Center (563-589-4136). Eagle Ridge (www.eagleridgeresortonline.com ; 800-892-2269) is an upscale resort offering golfing, tennis, swimming, boating, horseback riding and even hot air balloon rides. To cap it off the Stonedrift spa will ensure a relaxing vacation.
